MANILA – The National Bureau of Investigation (NBI) sees no problem with Vice President Sara Duterte-Carpio’s request to reschedule its summons for her to explain her alleged death threat against President Ferdinand Marcos Jr.
According to NBI director Jaime Santiago, they have yet to receive a formal request from Duterte-Carpio with regards to the rescheduling of the subpoena as of Thursday.
“Wala naman hong problema, pupuwede naman ma-resched,” Santiago said in an interview with Teleradyo Serbisyo Radyo 630 on Thursday morning.
Duterte-Carpio said on Wednesday that she requested to reschedule the summons to prioritize a hearing at the House of Representatives, where her aides were being questioned on the use of confidential funds.
The NBI had subpoenaed the Vice President to explain her statement that she had instructed that President Marcos, Speaker Martin Romualdez, and First Lady Liza Araneta-Marcos be killed should an alleged plot to kill her succeed.
Duterte-Carpio clarified that her statement was taken out of context and the “revenge” plot had a specific condition before it could be put into motion: that she had to die first.
Santiago reiterated that their investigation will be impartial and they are doing the probe since the law mandates the NBI to look into threats against the President, Vice President, and other officials.
“Hindi pupuwede kaming tumahimik lang dahil may threat, may plan of assault, kaya kami nagsti-step in na para maliwanagan natin ito,” Santiago said./PN
