Ilonggo resets record in Batang Pinoy high jump

MANILA – Iloilo Province’s Franklin Catera delivered a record performance in the boys under-18 high jump event of the Batang Pinoy National Championships at the Ramon V. Mitra Jr. Sports Complex in Puerto Princesa, Palawan.

Catera, a standout from Tigbauan National High School, finished with a new meet record of 1.98 meters, erasing the old mark of 1.97 meters he himself set in the 2023 Manila edition of Batang Pinoy.

Winnie John Paclibar, a native of Bay-ang, Ajuy, also added to Iloilo Province’s gold medal haul by topping the boys discus throw event with his 50-meter heave performance.

Meanwhile, the Iloilo Province girls relay team of Princess Lachica, Regiea Sorongon, Elaine Pastrana, and Eyena Cabalfin captured a gold medal in the 4×100 relay.

Pastrana, Lachica, Cabalfin, and Karen Bala-an bagged a silver in 4×400 relay event.

Paclibar, James Lascano, Jose Rey Posanso, and Joemar Jay Anas, on the other hand, bagged a silver in the 4×400 boys relay and won a bronze in the 4×100 meter relay event.

The Iloilo Province’s chess team composed of Iana Angela Sotaridona, Faith Argenal, Vaugh Robert Oberio, and Andrea Victoria Balbontin finished with 14 gold medals overall.

The Iloilo Province Archers team composed of Gendy Magremy Plantig, April Joy Pacalto, and Shela Marie San Juan showed their precise shooting to garner seven golds and six silver medals.

In taekwondo, Nathan Lee Dedal displayed a dominant performance to capture a gold medal, while swimmers Juila Sohlen Orada and Frenz Pasadilla ended with silver medals in the 100-meter freestyle and 50-meter backstroke, respectively.

Thirdy Mana-ay of Iloilo Province claimed a silver medal in the Boys 16-17 XCE (Cross Country Eliminator). Mana-ay is a member of the Go for Gold team that won a gold medal winner in the Asean Championship recently.

Maria Alexandra Onte, on the other hand, captured a bronze medal in the tennis event after winning her battle-for-bronze medal match./PN
