ILOILO – One person was killed and six others were injured after a motorcycle slammed into a group of people in Barangay Tigmalapad, Miagao town around 4:30 p.m. on Sunday, December 1.
Jerry Niday Sr. was declared dead on arrival at Miagao Rural Health Unit (RHU) due to severe body injuries, Miagao police said.
The injured meanwhile were identified as Maria Allen Niday, Nilda Castro, Clemente Castro Sr., a 14-year-old minor, and motorcycle driver JB Adrian Gumban and his back rider Julia Lorraine Basbaño. Some of them were brought to hospitals in Guimbal and San Joaquin towns while others were recuperating at the RHU.
According to Major Richard Lao, officer-in-charge of the Miagao Municipal Police Station, Gumban lost control of the motorcycle while descending and hit a group of individuals gathered at the barangay assistance desk.
Barangay Tigmalapad is located approximately 20 kilometers from the town center, Lao added.
As of this writing, the motorcycle driver was taken into police custody after undergoing treatment at the hospital./PN
