BACOLOD City – Filipino-Chinese business tycoon Hans T. Sy was declared adopted son of this city.
The Sangguniang Panlungsod (SP), through a resolution, also conferred him the title of honorary mayor for the city’s celebration of the Chinese Lunar New Year (Year of the Snake) on January 29, 2025.
Last week, Mayor Alfredo Abelardo Benitez asked the SP for the passage of a resolution declaring Sy an adopted son.
The mayor said Sy, a distinguished member of the Filipino-Chinese community, has made exceptional contributions to economic development, business leadership, and philanthropy, serving as an enduring role model for community progress and innovation.
He added that Sy’s leadership has not only driven growth in business and investment in the city but also reflected a profound commitment to social responsibility, family values, and civic engagement that resonate deeply with the ideals of Chinese brethren.
Based on the Bacolaodiat Board Resolution No. 001, Series of 2025, Bacolaodiat, Inc. is a recognized organization of the Filipino-Chinese community committed to promoting the culture and tradition of oriental virtues, particularly excellence in leadership, philanthropy, and societal engagement.
Bacolaodiat Inc. is the designated organizer of the city for the Bacolaodiat Festival 2025.
Resolution No. 001 cited that the celebration of the Chinese Lunar New Year highlights values such as unity, progress, and generosity, which are deeply embedded in the Filipino-Chinese community and serve as an inspiration for generations to come.
“Sy’s unparalleled achievements and dedication to advancing the welfare of the community make him a deserving recipient of the title “adopted son of Bacolod City,” the said board resolution added./PN
