Beermen dominates Dyip in PBA Comm’s Cup, 106-88

MANILA – San Miguel Beermen returned to their winning ways in the PBA Commissioner’s Cup with a 106-88 rout over Terrafirma Dyip last night at the Ninoy Aquino Stadium in Manila.

Torren Jones spearheaded the offense with a double-double of 24 points and 13 rebounds, while June Mar Fajardo chipped in 21 markers and 19 boards for the reigning champions Beermen.

Jaymar Perez contributed 16 points, while Juan Miguel Tiongson and Celedonio Trollano ended with 12 and 10 points, respectively, for SMB, which halted a two-game slide to improve to a 2-2 record.

Holding to a slim 21-16 lead after the opening quarter, the Beermen created separation from the Dyip in the second period to establish a 47-39 halftime lead.

The Dyip started strong in the third period as they cut the deficit to 61-63 but the Beermen regained their offense for an 80-70 lead before they pulled away for good.

Brandon Edwards tallied 18 points and 18 rebounds, Mark Nonoy and Vic Manuel added 14 and 12 points, respectively, while Louie Sangalang and Stanley Pringle ended with 11 each as the Dyip dropped to 0-5. 

On Thursday night, Blackwater Bossing banked on a huge fourth quarter finishing kick to defeat Meralco Bolts, 114-98. The Bossing secured their first win in four games, while the Bolts dropped to 3-1.

After seeing their early lead turned to an 85-86 deficit, the Bossing turned to the tandem of Sedrick Barefield and George King as they surged to a 101-89 lead after a three-pointer from Christian David.

The Bolts made their last push at 98-109 on a three-point play by Chris Newsome, but a three-pointer and a layup by James Kwekuteye increased the Bossing’s lead to its largest at 16 points at 114-98.

Barefield led the Bossing with 33 points and nine assists, while King contributed 32 points, including 16-of-16 free throw shooting, to go with 14 rebounds, while David and Kwekuteye ended with 17 and 10, respectively./PN
