Talking more about Christmas

BY LUIS BUENAFLOR JR.

IT’S CHRISTMAS time in “I Am Iloilo City” and with almost everyone exuding that yuletide spirit, seems like a good time to talk about Christmas and other related stuff.

And we start with “I Am Iloilo City’s sole power distribution utility, MORE Electric and Power Corporation a.k.a. MORE Power literally lighting up the city’s plazas, specifically Plaza Libertad and Jaro Plaza.

The festive spirit comes alive in Iloilo as MORE Power officially turned on its iconic Twin Christmas Trees bringing together Ilonggos in celebration of warmth, unity, and sustainability this holiday season.

The Unity Christmas Tree at Plaza Libertad and the Harmony Christmas Tree at Jaro Plaza, crafted from recycled materials, stand as shining symbols of MORE Power’s dedication to environmental responsibility and community togetherness. A unique addition this year is the integration of a bucket truck, signifying the company’s unwavering commitment to powering progress and uplifting lives.

Top City government and MORE Power officials led the first contributions to the donation box beneath the Twin Christmas Trees. This initiative invites Ilonggos to “Spread the Love and Give MORE” by donating to support those in need, embracing the true spirit of Christmas.

Visitors are encouraged to take photos and videos with the Twin Christmas Trees and contribute to the donation box. Share your holiday moments online and tag MORE Power to help spread the festive spirit across Iloilo and beyond. (PN 12/6/2024)

Moving on, Santa Claus, I mean Iloilo City’s Mayor Jerry Treñas, started the gift giving by officially declaring MORE Power president/CEO Roel Castro an “adopted son” of Iloilo City, in recognition of his exemplary leadership and transformative contributions to this city’s progress,

Mayor Jerry P. Treñas conferred the honor through Executive Order No. 162, signed on December 12, 2024, citing Castro’s role in modernizing the city’s power distribution infrastructure, enhancing the reliability and efficiency of electricity services, bolstered economic growth and improved the quality of life for residents and businesses.

The executive order also cited Castro’s dedication to social responsibility, environmental sustainability, and community partnerships.

Under his guidance, MORE Power has not only advanced Iloilo City’s energy sector but also engaged in initiatives promoting education, public welfare, and social upliftment.

And what better gift can the city give to a man who is more Ilonggo than some by making him one of its own.

Through a statement, MORE Power celebrated the recognition as a historic milestone for their leader, saying: “This honor recognizes Mr. Castro’s visionary leadership and commitment to the development of Iloilo City. His initiatives have empowered residents, businesses, and industries while fostering partnerships that uplift the community.”

Finally, still in the Christmas spirit, MORE Electric and Power Corporation a.k.a. MORE Power) recently hosted a Media Christmas Thanksgiving at one of the plush hotels here in “I Am Iloilo City”, expressing the company’s commitment to fostering strong relationships with media partners and bloggers. The event served as a gesture of gratitude for their invaluable role in disseminating vital power advisories and highlighting the company’s achievements throughout the year.

MORE Power president and chief executive officer Roel Castro expressed his heartfelt appreciation for the media’s support, emphasizing their contribution in keeping the public informed and engaged about the company’s efforts to provide reliable electricity services.

Attended by over 60 media personnel and bloggers including me (of course), the celebration was filled with holiday cheer, exciting activities and impressive prizes. It was a fun-filled evening complete with raffle draws featuring top-tier prizes, engaging games, and festive gift packs designed to spread the Christmas spirit.

It was a good year, indeed. Well played, MORE Power a.k.a. Nong Moroy./PN
