CHO to public: ‘Report individuals selling illegal firecrackers’

BACOLOD City – The City Health Office (CHO) here urged the public to report to the authorities those individuals selling illegal firecrackers and unauthorized firecracker vendors.

On Tuesday, December 24, the CHO recorded one firecracker-related injury.

Dr. Grace Tan, chief of the CHO’s Environment Sanitation Division, said the victim, a seven-year-old boy from Barangay Estefania, sustained wounds on his hand and foot from a five-star firecracker he bought from an unauthorized store.

The city government had earlier announced that firecracker vendors can display their products in the designated firecracker zone at the back of Pope John Paul II Tower at the Reclamation Area.

On Dec. 11, the city government, Bureau of Fire Protection (BFP)-Bacolod City, Philippine National Police, and Department of Health launched the “Oplan Iwas Paputok; Paskong Ligtas, Bagong Taong Maaliwalas” campaign to ensure the safety of everyone this holiday season.

“We should celebrate the new year with extra care. The public must buy pyrotechnics that are recommended by the authorities to prevent casualty or injury,” said Tan.

“In case you allow your children to go outside the house, warn them not to pick up or light firecrackers scattered on the streets because it might explode which may cause harm to their bodies,” she further reminded parents./PN
