BACOLOD City – Effective January next year, the city government will implement a “no appointment, no work” policy for job order (JO) employees.
This was confirmed yesterday, December 26, by City Administrator Lucel Gelvolea following the issuance of Memorandum Order No. 271, dated December 18, 2024, addressed to all department and office heads of the Bacolod City Government.
“All Jos who have no duly signed appointments effective January 1, 2025 are strictly prohibited from rendering any work in their designated offices,” read part of the memorandum signed by Mayor Alfredo Abelardo Benitez.
Only JOs whose names appear on the final list per office as provided by City Mayor’s Office and signed by the Secretary to the Mayor are allowed to report for work starting on the said date, it added.
Gelvolea explained it is a standard procedure that once the contract ends and not renewed, a JO worker should no longer report to work.
As of this writing, the department and office heads are waiting for the release of the final list for the appointment of the JOs who will still report to work by next month.
“The memo was issued because we do not want that what happened in the previous years will be repeated. It’s unfair for them to work without pay,” Gelvolea said.
Currently, the city government has 4,800 JOs./PN
