ILOILO City – The Police Regional Office 6 (PRO-6) assured the victims and their family of an in-depth, impartial investigation to the shooting incident in Negros Occidental involving a police officer.
PRO-6 director Brigadier General Jack Wanky said the suspect was identified as Corporal Armin Alanza, 36, assigned at the Regional Mobile Force Battalion 6 and resident of Barangay Canjusa, Pulupandan, Negros Occidental.
“Order was already given to the provincial director of Negros Occidental Police Provincial Office and to the commander of the Regional Mobile Force Battalion 6,” said Wanky.
On December 25 at 4 a.m., two construction workers were allegedly shot by the suspect in Barangay Canjusa.
The victims were identified as alias “Jomarie”, 52, and his son, alias “Joman”, 21, both residents of the aforementioned barangay.
Initial investigation revealed that prior to the shooting incident, a heated confrontation ensued after the suspect cautioned the victims who bought some beers at a store.
The victims were rushed to the Valladolid District Hospital, however, Joman was declared dead on arrival by the attending physician due to fatal body injuries.
Jomarie, meanwhile, was recuperating at the said hospital as of this writing.
“We extend our deepest sympathy to the family members of the victims of this unfortunate incident caused by one of our members. PRO-6 will ensure that appropriate support will be extended to them. A speedy pre-charge investigation will likewise be conducted against the suspect for his immediate dismissal from the police service,” said Wanky.
He added: “This is an isolated case. We do not tolerate and condone any wrong doings of any of our police officers. Those who are involved in crimes and illegal activities will be appropriately investigated and suffer the consequences of their action.”
The suspect and the firearm used are currently in the custody of the Pulupandan Municipal Police Station for proper disposition./PN
