GOLDEN State Warriors escaped a late run by Detroit Pistons for a 107-104 victory in the 2024-25 NBA Regular Season on Thursday night (Friday in the Philippines) at the Little Caesars Arena in Detroit, Michigan.
Leading by as many as 18 points at 98-80 midway through the fourth quarter, the Warriors were surprised by a huge run by the Pistons to cut the deficit to 98-102 with over a minute left.
The Warriors widened it to 104-98 on a basket by Dennis Schröder but the Pistons got back-to-back hits from Jalen Duren and Cade Cunningham to make it 102-104 before Golden State’s Stephen Curry knocked down two free throws.
Golden State were clinging to a 107-103 lead after a split free throw by Gui Santos. Detroit’s Cunningham intentionally split his free throws to regain the possession but Malik Beasley missed on a potential game-tying triple at the buzzer.
Buddy Hield led the way with 19 points, including five three-point conversions, while Curry added 17 points, 10 rebounds, and six assists as the Warriors improved to a 19-18 win-loss slate.
Trayce Jackson-Davis added a double-double of 14 points and 10 rebounds, Schröder and Santos finished with 13 points apiece, and Lindy Waters III contributed 11 markers for the Warriors.
Cunningham top-scored for the Pistons with 32 points, Beasley added 21 markers, while Tobias Harris and Ron Holland III ended with 13 and 11, respectively, as they fell to a 19-19 record.
Meanwhile, Darius Garland stepped up in the fourth quarter as Cleveland Cavaliers (33-4) scored a 132-126 victory over Toronto Raptors (8-30) for their 12th consecutive win.
Garland finished the game with 40 points, including 12 in the fourth quarter, to go with nine assists, two rebounds, and two steals for Cleveland, which rested star Donovan Mitchell in the game.
Evan Mobley added a double-double of 21 points and 11 rebounds, Caris LeVert and Jarrett Allen tallied 18 points apiece, and Max Strus contributed 12 points for the Cavaliers./PN
