Bacolod’s Fr. M. Ferrero Street closed for redev’t project

BACOLOD City – The whole stretch of Fr. Ferrero Street here has been temporarily closed due to the ongoing demolition of illegal structures to give way for a redevelopment project in barangays 10 and 12.

The Sangguniang Panlungsod (SP) passed a resolution on this following the request of Mayor Alfredo Abelardo Benitez to close the area beginning Thursday, January 30, until February 14.

Rerouting is also being implemented.

Jose Antonio Robello, deputy head of the Bacolod Traffic Authority Office (BTAO), said upon reaching Burgos-San Juan Streets, public utility jeepneys (PUJs), particularly Fortune Towne-Central Market loop jeepneys, will turn left to San Juan Street, then turn right to Rizal Street and continue all the way to their destination.

The SM Prime Holdings Inc. (SPHI). leased the 16,875-square meter city government-owned property covered by Transfer Certificate of Title (TCT) Nos. T-55865 and T-55866 in barangays 10 and 12 for its redevelopment project, just across the SM City Bacolod.

On January 28, the City Legal Office started demolishing illegal structures in the said barangays.

Earlier, the city government has committed to the SPHI to totally clear the redevelopment site from illegal structures, including the Manokan Country, by next week./PN
