Man crossing street dies from electrocution

ILOILO City – Investigations are currently ongoing following the tragic death of a man who was electrocuted while crossing on Gen. Luna Street, City Proper district around 6:21 p.m. on Thursday, February 6.

Police Lieutenant Romulo Tabuyoc, officer-in-charge of Police Station 1, said alias “Boy,” a resident of Barangay Sinikway, Lapuz district, was attempting to cross the street when he accidentally touched an exposed wire of a streetlight at the center island in front of The Atrium mall, resulting in a fatal electric shock.

The victim was rushed to the nearest hospital but was declared dead on arrival by the attending physician.

Meanwhile, the incident sparked concerns regarding the safety of electrical infrastructure in public areas.

As of this writing, Tabuyoc said they were still looking into how the wire became exposed and whether preventive measures were in place.

The police also urged the public to remain cautious around electrical installations and report any hazardous conditions immediately./PN
