MANILA – The camp of former senator and losing presidential candidate Emmanuel “Manny” Pacquiao has issued a public apology after one of their service vehicles was caught using the EDSA bus lane.
Jojo Cagumay, head of Pacquiao’s security, said he already reprimanded the driver, while the retired boxer also told his team to follow traffic regulations as he values discipline and respect for the law.
“I reprimanded the driver and ordered him to return, apologize, and accept the traffic ticket. We do not tolerate any disregard for traffic laws,” Cagumay said in a statement.
“After being stopped, the driver left instead of complying with authorities. This was a mistake, and we take full responsibility,” he added. “We apologize for this mistake and will ensure it does not happen again.”
The Special Action and Intelligence Committee for Transportation (SAICT) of the Department of Transportation apprehended two vehicles whose occupants asserted they were members of Pacquiao’s security team, utilizing the EDSA bus way.
In addition to unlawfully occupying the bus lane, both the van and the SUV were equipped with unauthorized sirens and flashing lights.
A passenger from one of the vehicles indicated a willingness to stop and engage with the traffic enforcer; however, they subsequently attempted to evade the situation.
The van later returned to the scene. The convoy received citations for violating traffic regulations, including the improper use of signaling devices and failure to adhere to traffic signs./PN
