DILG wants better emergency response in Western Visayas

ILOILO City – Secretary Juanito Victor Remulla of the Department of Interior and Local Government (DILG) met with key officials from his regional office here, the Police Regional Office 6 (PRO-6), Bureau of Fire Protection (BFP), and the Bureau of Jail Management and Penology (BJMP) on February 21.

Their meeting centered on strengthening emergency response efforts across Western Visayas.

A major focus of the discussion was improving public safety measures and enhancing the capacity of local government units (LGUs) in handling emergencies.

Remulla emphasized the nationwide initiative to distribute fire trucks and ambulances to LGUs, a key project under the administration of President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr.

DILG regional director Juan Jovian Ingeniero confirmed that the department aims to deliver emergency vehicles to every LGU before the end of President Ferdinand Marcos Jr.’s term.

“Secretary Remulla highlighted the importance of equipping LGUs with the necessary resources for effective emergency responses,” Ingeniero said.

In addition to fire trucks, the government is also investing in ambulances to support the 911 emergency system.

“The Secretary wants to ensure our emergency response teams have the right tools, especially for fire-related emergencies,” Ingeniero added.

However, Ingeniero acknowledged that the initiative requires significant funding, and the distribution of the vehicles will be done in phases. The goal is to complete the distribution by the end of the President’s term./PN
