
ILOILO City – A fire broke out at the junk shop in Barangay Calajunan, Mandurriao district yesterday, destroying approximately 300 to 400 square meters of the area.
The Bureau of Fire Protection (BFP)-Iloilo City received the fire call at 11:12 a.m. and raised the fire alarm to the third level at 11:38 a.m.
Firefighters managed to bring the blaze under control by 12:01 p.m. and fully extinguished it at 12:20 p.m.
According to workers at the junk shop, they heard an explosion before the fire started.
According to the BFP-Iloilo City personnel, one possible cause being investigated is a gas leak from a lighter, which could have ignited the highly flammable plastic materials in the area./PN
