ILOILO – A 65-year-old man was arrested in Barangay Janipaan Olo, Cabatuan, Iloilo for illegal possession of a firearm while police were conducting a separate operation in the area.
Danilo Alfaras Doronila, a resident of Barangay Balantang, Jaro, Iloilo City, was found in possession of a caliber .40 pistol with two magazines and 19 rounds of live ammunition.
According to Police Captain Aileen Lacrite, chief of the Cabatuan Municipal Police Station, Doronila was not the original target of the police operation.
Lacrite said police were providing security during the service of a warrant of arrest against another individual in the village when they saw the firearm in Doronila’s possession on February 25.
“He was asked if he had any permit to own or carry a firearm, but he failed to present any. This is a clear violation of Republic Act 10591 (Comprehensive Firearms and Ammunition Regulation Act),” Lacrite added.
Doronila was detained at the Cabatuan Municipal Police Station, awaiting the filing of charges.
The confiscated firearm and ammunition were secured as evidence./PN
