MANILA – Former Presidential Security Command (PSC) commander Major General Jesus Nelson Morales is set to be assigned to another government office, Malacañang clarified on Wednesday.
According to Presidential Communications Office’s Undersecretary Claire Castro, this is the reason why President Ferdinand “Bongbong” Marcos Jr. terminated Morales’ appointment as PSC chief.
“Na-terminate po ‘yung kaniyang command dahil po ililipat po siya ng ibang duty. ‘Yun lamang po ang maaari nating sabihin patungkol po diyan,” Castro said in a Malacañang press briefing on Wednesday.
Asked if Morales’ appointment was terminated following concerns over Chinese spies targeting Malacañang, Castro said there was no other reasons mentioned other than his transfer.
“Wala pong nabanggit sa atin na ganoon. Lumabas na lamang po na ‘yun nga po, ang kaniyang command will be considered terminated dahil mayroon na pong papalit bilang PSC Commander,” Castro said.
Morales, who served as PSC head in 2023, was replaced by Brigadier General Peter Burgonio, who will serve as the new commander in his acting capacity.
The PSC, formerly known as the Presidential Security Group, is a unit under the Armed Forces of the Philippines mandated to provide protection escort for the President, Vice President and their immediate families, as well as honor guard duties for visiting dignitaries./PN
