ILOILO City – As part of its fifth anniversary celebration, MORE Electric and Power Corporation (MORE Power) launched the Harvest Festival, reinforcing its commitment to sustainability and agricultural development.

Over the years, the company has actively engaged in tree planting, mangrove restoration, and coastal cleanups. Now, the focus shifts to sustaining these efforts while empowering local farmers.

In partnership with the City Agriculture Office and Uswag Nursery, MORE Power established 15 planting plots dedicated to growing vegetables such as lettuce, pechay, bok choy, eggplant, ampalaya, and okra. This initiative aims to enhance food security, introduce modern farming techniques, and provide ongoing assistance to farmers. Farmers also received new seed varieties and expert guidance from Allied Botanical Corporation, equipping them with innovative planting methods to boost productivity.

Beyond the planting activities, the event included hands-on farming demonstrations, allowing farmers to apply sustainable techniques firsthand. A fresh produce market was also set up, providing an opportunity for them to sell their harvest directly to the community.

Educational sessions introduced modern farming innovations, ensuring that farmers can adapt to changing agricultural conditions and maximize their yields. Regular crop monitoring and support will also be implemented to sustain the progress made through this initiative.

MORE Power Vice President for Marketing and Corporate Affairs, Ma. Cristina D. Cabalhin, emphasized that the company’s environmental and agricultural initiatives go beyond corporate responsibility. She highlighted that MORE Power is dedicated to long-term community development, focusing on collaboration and innovation in farming.

MORE Power employees and local farmers participated in a harvest festival, purchasing the produce they gathered to support local farmers.

She added that the Harvest Festival is a testament to the company’s commitment to sustainable growth and continued support for local farmers.

Ynigo Garingalao, representing the Iloilo City Government, recognized MORE Power’s efforts beyond providing reliable electricity. He acknowledged the company’s active role in uplifting local farmers, strengthening food security, and fostering community-driven progress.

Farmers expressed their appreciation for MORE Power’s support and investment in the agricultural sector, particularly the orientation and seed donations that introduced them to new seed varieties and modern techniques. The discussions with agricultural experts provided valuable insights that they found practical and beneficial. With an average program rating of 9.3/10, farmers also shared their suggestions, including more training sessions, sustained partnerships with agricultural experts, and power support for irrigation systems.

MORE Power remains committed to nurturing sustainable practices and empowering farmers, ensuring that initiatives like the Harvest Festival contribute to a greener, more food-secure Iloilo./PN
