BACOLOD City – A fare collector of a bus here died after falling from the vehicle on the evening of March 4.
The 22-year-old Reynan Sigurado worked for a RSJ-operated bus traveling the Homesite to Central Market loop.
According to his sister, Rose Bantilan, Sigurado fell when the bus door suddenly opened.
In a media interview, Bantilan explained, “He was either collecting fare or issuing tickets to a passenger when the door suddenly opened, and he fell out.”
Sigurado was rushed to a local hospital and remained in a coma until his death was confirmed on March 6.
Jose Antonio Robello, deputy officer-in-charge of the Bacolod Traffic and Transportation Management Department (BTTMD), said an investigation revealed the fare collector fell after a passenger requested to disembark, causing the door to open.
Robello reiterated the importance of adhering to traffic regulations, particularly the rule against opening vehicle doors while the bus is in motion.
He emphasized that drivers have been repeatedly reminded to stop fully before opening the doors./PN
