Police probe knife attack in Jaro

ILOILO City – Police have identified the man who chased and threatened a group of young men with a knife near the West Visayas State University Medical Center in Jaro district.

Police Major Eduardo Siacon Jr., commander of the Iloilo City Police Station 9, said alias “Rico” is a known figure in the area and is reportedly from the district of La Paz.

Residents claim he has a history of similar incidents, but previous cases were never formally reported to authorities.

The latest incident involved 28-year-old Jayson Eufemia and his two friends, who were walking toward Jaro Plaza on Thursday night, March 6.

Vendors in the area warned them about a man wielding a knife. In an attempt to avoid trouble, the three crossed the street near Nelly’s Garden. However, the suspect still pursued them, specifically targeting Eufemia.

Eufemia ran for about 100 meters before he was pinned to the ground in front of an establishment. The suspect allegedly attempted to stab him but stopped when latter called for help.

The suspect fled and remained at large as of this writing.

Police were still investigating whether he was under the influence of alcohol or has a mental health condition. He may face charges of grave threats if found mentally competent./PN
