11 Aklan towns still under ASF pink zones

KALIBO, Aklan – Eleven municipalities in the province of Aklan are still classified under the pink zones, according to the latest African Swine Fever (ASF) National Zoning and Movement Plan of the Department of Agriculture-Bureau of Animal Industry (DA-BAI).

These are Malay, Altavas, Nabas, Numancia, Batan, Madalag, Balete, Makato, Malinao, New Washington, and Banga.

The town of Buruanga was declared as “yellow zone” or surveillance zone, as of February 25 zoning status.

Meanwhile, five towns were declared as “red zones” for ASF: Libacao, Tangalan, Kalibo, Lezo, and Ibajay.

In Antique province, the towns in “free zones” or dark green status are Caluya, Tibiao, Sebaste, Barbaza, Libertad, Pandan, and Culasi.

For Capiz, Panitan, Dumalag, Panay, Ivisan, Pontevedra, Sapi-an, Tapaz, Pilar, and Sigma are tagged under “red zones”.

As of February 28, DA-BAI reported 459 cities and municipalities upgraded from red zone to pink zone while 79 cities and municipalities across the country were upgraded from pink to yellow.

ASF is a highly infectious swine disease characterized by severe mortalities and considered to be a persistent and formidable threat to the swine industry./PN
