BACOLOD City – The Philippine National Police (PNP) will activate the Police Regional Office -Negros Island Region (PRO-NIR) in a ceremony to be held at Camp Alfredo M. Montelibano in this city on March 27.

This was announced by the Negros Occidental Police Provincial Office (NOCPPO) yesterday, March 14, after the final meeting for the establishment of the PRO-NIR was held last week.

β€œThe meeting, presided by Brigadier General Lex Ephraim Gurat, acting director for plans, included presentations of the plans of action,” the NOCPPO said in a report.

The Directorate for Personnel and Records Management presented the comprehensive plan for the manning of PRO-NIR while the Directorate for Logistics discussed the action plan on the logistical support for activation and operationalization.

The Directorate for Comptrollership also gave a presentation on the fund support for the inauguration, activation, and operationalization of the regional police office.

There was no confirmation yet on who will be assigned as director of the PRO-NIR.

In January, PNP spokesperson Brigadier General Jean Fajardo said police personnel who would be affected by the deactivation of the Area Police Command, formerly known as the Directorate for Integrated Police Operations, might be transferred to the PRO-NIR.

β€œIn the NIR alone, a big number of personnel can be accommodated there, including third-level positions, such as the regional director, the deputies, and the provincial directors. We also have the regional staff. These are positions that should be occupied by third-level officers,” she said.

Republic Act 12000, signed by President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr. in June last year, created an administrative region comprising Negros Occidental, including the highly urbanized Bacolod City, Negros Oriental, and Siquijor. (PNA)
