ANTIQUE – A tragic drowning incident claimed the life of a one-year-old child in a coastal barangay of Tobias Fornier in this province.
Police Captain Charles Richard Casalan, chief of the Tobias Fornier Municipal Police Station, reported that the child was last seen at home under the care of an older sibling before going missing on March 5. The father had left for work around 6:30 a.m., entrusting the child to a six-year-old sibling while their mother was out selling goods.
Upon returning home, the mother immediately searched for the baby but found the house empty. Realizing the danger, she rushed to the shore near their home, where a barangay tanod, who was bathing his own child, noticed a small body floating about 15 meters from the shoreline.
The tanod immediately retrieved the child and attempted resuscitation, but remained unresponsive. The child was then rushed to President Diosdado Macapagal District Hospital, where doctors declared him dead on arrival./PN
