
MANILA – Samjosef Belangel and Daegu Korea Gas Corporation Pegasus bowed to Anyang Jung Kwan Jang Red Boosters, 73-68, in the Korean Basketball League on Monday night at the Daegu Gymnasium.
The Bacolod City cager finished with a team-high of 16 points, five steals, three rebounds, and three assists in 34 minutes of action, but the Pegasus dropped to a 24-22 win-loss record.
“The schedule has been tough lately. Because it was physically difficult, we couldn’t play the defense we prepared and we relied on individuals a lot,” Pegasus head coach Kang Hyuk said after the game.
“Still, the players had the will to try and win. I’m satisfied that they didn’t give up at home and did their best. Rather, I feel sorry that I couldn’t make necessary adjustments,” he added.
Johnny O’Bryant top-scored for the Red Boosters with 26 points, Deonte Burton and Park Ji-hoon added 17 and 10 points, respectively, while Javi Gomez de Liano contributed four points as they improved to a 19-27 record.
Andrew Nicholson finished with 15 points, five rebounds, and two steals for the Pegasus, while Jeong Seong-woo and Kim Jun-il added 13 and 11 markers, respectively.
Carl Tamayo, meanwhile, was held scoreless in 11 minutes of action as Changwon LG Sakers (28-17) suffered a lopsided 90-62 defeat against Suwon KT Sonicboom (27-18).
Ethan Alvano, on the other hand, finished with 12 points, five rebounds, and four assists but Wonju DB Promy (20-26) tasted a 75-63 loss against top-seed Seoul SK Knights (37-9).
Calvin Espitola, for his part, contributed eight points, three assists, and two steals as the defending champions Busan KCC Egis (16-29) scored a 102-76 rout against Ulsan Hyundai Mobis Phoebus (27-18)./PN
