
GUIMARAS – The Department of Trade and Industry (DTI) in this province, in collaboration with Negosyo Center Sibunag, Sibunag local government unit (LGU), and various government partners, successfully launched the first session of BIZ BOOST: Navigating Government Programs for MSMEs at the Sibunag Municipal Hall.
This initiative was designed to equip micro, small, and medium enterprises (MSMEs) with essential knowledge on accessing government programs, funding opportunities, and support services. By providing a comprehensive overview of available assistance and streamlining processes, the seminar sought to empower business owners to leverage government resources effectively for sustainable growth and competitiveness.
The event convened key stakeholders, including the DTI Guimaras, Sibunag LGU led by Mayor Annabelle V. Samaniego, Bureau of Internal Revenue (BIR) RDO 74, Department of Labor and Employment (DOLE) Guimaras, Sibunag Business Permits and Licensing Office, and Small Business Corporation. Each agency played a crucial role in providing technical expertise and guidance on regulatory compliance, financial assistance, and business development.
Nesgen Rhea C. Zerrudo, Senior Trade and Industry Development Specialist of DTI Guimaras, underscored the significance of strong collaboration between the public and private sectors in fostering a thriving business environment. She emphasized:
“We are your partners in navigating the various programs and services available to help your businesses grow. By working together, we can strengthen our efforts toward creating an enabling business climate that supports MSMEs in achieving long-term success,” she said.
The seminar featured discussions from various resource speakers who provided in-depth guidance on critical areas of business operations and regulatory requirements:
* Business Name Registration – Ms. Ruth Penuela, Negosyo Center Coordinator from DTI Guimaras, detailed the step-by-step process of registering a business name and securing legal recognition.
* Mayor’s Permit Processing – Mr. Samuel L. Tacadao, Licensing Officer I from the Business Permits and Licensing Office, outlined the necessary requirements and procedures for obtaining a mayor’s permit, emphasizing compliance with local regulations.
* Labor Compliance and Employee Welfare – Mr. Kenneth Jun V. Eusebio, Senior Labor and Employment Officer of DOLE Guimaras, discussed key labor laws, employee rights, and the importance of ensuring workplace compliance to avoid penalties and labor disputes.
* Tax Registration and Compliance – Ms. Angel Kym B. Terrania and Mr. Janry Joshua B. Angelitud, Revenue Officers from BIR, provided a comprehensive overview of tax registration processes, compliance obligations, and the consequences of non-compliance.
* Financial Assistance for MSMEs – Ms. Joyce M. Gedalanga, P3 Provincial Coordinator from Small Business Corporation, presented various loan programs designed to support MSME growth, including financing options that cater to small businesses’ specific needs.
Following the structured learning sessions, MSME participants had the opportunity to engage in one-on-one consultations with representatives from the participating agencies. This interactive segment allowed them to seek personalized advice, clarify concerns, and explore tailored solutions for their business challenges.
A total of 43 MSMEs, comprising both established business owners and aspiring entrepreneurs, actively participated in the seminar. Their strong engagement highlighted the growing recognition of the importance of regulatory compliance and maximizing government support to drive business success./PN
