BACOLOD City – The city government through its City Veterinary Office (CVO) will hold the first-ever Bacolod Pet Festival from March 29 until April 6.

With the theme “Building a Safe and Rabies-free Community is Our Shared Responsibility,” it will feature numerous pet-friendly activities and events that both pets and pet owners will enjoy.

Dr. John Michael Cabuguason, the assistant city veterinarian, invited all pet owners and lovers in this grand celebration that aims to raise awareness on rabies as well as promote animal welfare and responsible pet ownership.

The celebration, Cabuguason said, will kick off with a pet walk at 6 a.m. at the Panaad Park in Barangay Mansilingan on March 29.

It will be followed by a dog show at Robinsons Mall on March 30. There will also be a mass vaccination for dogs and cats in barangays from March 31 to April 3.

Other activities include a three-day of fun-filled activities for pet lovers and furry friends at Ayala Malls Capitol Central, launching of the pet identification card on April 4, poster making and quiz bee, pet training and handling, fashion show, and Libre Kapon (neutering), among others.

Last month, the city announced that it will implement a pet identification (ID) system for all dogs and cats here to improve animal welfare and promote responsible pet ownership.

Cabuguason said the purpose of the ID system is to find out how many dogs and cats are in the city. Each registered animal will have its corresponding quick response (QR) code.

He added that the pet ID is under the anti-rabies program of the CVO.

“It will make vaccination faster and efficient. Pet owners will be notified through a push notification whenever there is a scheduled vaccination,” the assistant city veterinarian said./PN
