ILOILO City – Officers of the Pavia Municipal Police Station (MPS) arrested the suspect in the killing of a barangay tanod in the town’s Barangay Amparo on March 22.
The 41-year-old Regie Mensenares Gaborno, a resident of the said village, was detained at the Pavia MPS. He will be charged with murder case under Article 248 of the Revised Penal Code and violation of Republic Act 10591, or the Comprehensive Firearms and Ammunition Regulation Act.
“After the shooting incident, the suspect went home where he was arrested,” said Pavia police chief Major Harold Rendora.
Recovered from the suspect was a caliber .45 pistol with four rounds of ammunition reportedly owned by the victim.
Rendora said the victim had unpaid debt amounting to P15,000.
“The suspect was telling the victim to pay his long overdue debt but he failed to pay, and maybe that’s the reason behind [the killing],” Rendora added.
The victim, identified as Carmelino Minor Jr., 51, was found dead about 10 meters away from his motorcycle, with a gunshot wound on his upper left shoulder, believed to have been inflicted by a 12-gauge shotgun, on Saturday night, March 22.
Rendora said the incident happened while the victim was on his way to the tanod outpost. The suspect approached the victim which later resulted to a shooting incident./PN
