ILOILO City – Kaya Futbol Club-Iloilo settled for a 1-1 draw with Manila Digger Football Club in the 2024-25 Philippines Football League on Saturday at the Iloilo Sports Complex here.

Ghanian forward Ernest Barfo opened the scoring for the Iloilo City-based booters in the 24th minute, but Manila Digger responded with a connection from Pa Ousman Gai to tie things up at the half.

The defending champions Kaya Iloilo managed to hold on to the draw despite being decimated to 10 players following the red card slapped on Eric Esso in the opening half.

With the outcome, Kaya Iloilo remained on top with 41 points, on 13 wins, two draws, and two losses, while Manila Digger is at second place with 40 points, on 13 wins, one draw, and three defeats.

It was an unfortunate outcome for Kaya Iloilo as they could have secured the league championship with a victory over Manila Digger.

“The league leaders needed all three points to secure the crown, but a resolute Digger side held their ground, proving they’re not just contenders — they’re disruptors,” the PFL stated in a social media post. “The title remains up for grabs. The drama continues.”

Prior to the draw, Kaya-Iloilo managed to win their first two home games against One Taguig Football Club, 2-0, and Loyola Victorias Football Club, 1-0, last week./PN
