
CAPIZ – The Municipality of Dumarao emerged as the big winner in the dance drama and street dance competitions of the Maragtas sang Capisnon: Historical Parade and Cultural Performances on Saturday, April 5.
Entitled “Pagpakigsumpong: The Guerilla Resistance of Capiz and the Fall of Terasaki, Terror of Panay”, Dumarao’s dance drama dominated the contest on Saturday night.
Mambusao town represented by the Capiz State University (“In the Midst of Tears”) won first runner-up and Dumalag’s “Humadapnon sa Tarangban” was the second runner-up.
The Municipality of Dao’s “Pasimpalad: The OFWs as Baganihans” and Roxas City were adjudged as third and fourth runners-up, respectively.
This three-part historical narrative by dramaturg and history consultant Dr. Vicente C. Villan, supported by history consultant Erwin Bonifacio, took center stage in the form of a dance drama competition participated by local government units (LGUs), featuring special performances from some academic institutions.
This year’s narrative was divided into three themes:
* Sugidanon (Epic) – The Epic Voyages and Journeys: Unraveling the High Seas Adventures and the Captivating Capisnon’s Maritime Cultural Heritage.
* Sugilanon (Folktale) – Embark on Cultural Odyssey: Celebrating the Essence of Capisnon Stories Through Folkloric Heritage
* Maragtas (History)—The Legacy of Strength: Unfolding the Capisnon Tales of Bravery and the Indomitable Spirit Through Ages.
Meanwhile, the winners for Best in Street Dancing are the following:
* Municipality of Dumarao – grand winner
* Filamer Christian University – first runner-up
* Municipality of Dumalag – second runner-up
* Municipality of Ivisan – third runner-up
* Municipality of Pontevedra – fourth runner-up
Another big event on the same day was the grand parade of floats, which was also participated by the component LGUs and schools in the province.
The Municipality of President Roxas with its float themed as “Pagpanikasog: The Rising Tide of Empowered Capisnon Women in the Face of Challenges Posed by the Japanese Imperial” was declared as the grand winner.
It was followed by Dumalag (first runner-up), Dumarao (second runner-up), Panay (third runner-up), and Ivisan (fourth runner-up).
Meanwhile, this year’s historical parade brought to life key moments from the province’s past, from pre-colonial times to the colonial and post-colonial eras, through themed elaborate displays and vibrant street performances.
Saturday’s events were graced by Department of Tourism (DOT) Secretary Christina Garcia Frasco, DOT Region 6 director Crisanta Marlene Rodriguez, Gov. Fredenil Castro, and other officials from the province./PN
