MANILA – No new security advisory has been issued by the United States regarding the Ninoy Aquino International Airport (NAIA) or any other airport in the Philippines, stressed the Department of Transportation (DOTr).
In a statement on Monday, the DOTr made a clarification in response to a social media post that featured what seemed to be a travel advisory issued against NAIA in December 2018.
“This clarification follows the circulation of a social media post showing what appears to be an old 2018 travel advisory displayed at Sacramento International Airport in California,” the DOTr said.
In the said old advisory, it identified NAIA’s “failure to adequately implement and maintain international security standards” but it was lifted in August 2019 after “significant improvements to the security operations of the airport.”
NAIA’s operator, the New NAIA Infra Corporation (NNIC), coordinated with the US Transportation Security Administration (TSA), and said the latter confirmed that there is no current advisory against the airport.
The agency further said that the US lTSA already took down the “wrong advisory”, which was “accidentally reposted by an airline.”
“TSA conducts security assessments of NAIA every six months. The most recent assessment, in February 2025, showed major improvements and was the first since 2019 with no new findings,” the NNIC said./PN
