ANTIQUE – The Provincial Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office (PDRRMO) yesterday warned residents against ashfall from Mount Kanlaon’s latest eruption that could reach the province.

PDRRMO chief Broderick Train reminded residents of the harmful effects of ashfall to their health.

“I urge the public to meanwhile use facemasks and limit their exposure outdoors to protect themselves against the ashfall emission that could be hazardous,” he said.

Train recalled that in December 2024, some areas in Antique experienced ashfall from Kanlaon, with some Antiqueños complaining about respiratory illnesses and poor visibility along the roads.

The Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (Phivolcs) said Mount Kanlaon erupted from 5:51 to 6:47 a.m. yesterday as a result of gas pressure.

Meanwhile, from April 15 to 30, Train and two PDRRMO personnel would augment the Office of Civil Defense and the Negros Island Region Incident Management Team assigned to the onsite monitoring of the volcano.

“As augmentation personnel, we will be helping manage the operation center that has been set up at the NIR for the Kanlaon Volcano,” Train said. (PNA)
