Negros Occ. on blue alert status for Holy Week

BACOLOD City – The province of Negros Occidental will be the blue alert status this Holy Week, effective today from 8 a.m. until 8 a.m. of April 21.

According to the Provincial Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council (PDRRMC) and Emergency Operations Center (EOC), the blue alert status, in disaster management, signifies heightened monitoring, increased preparedness, and enhanced coordination to actively track potential issues and respond to ongoing emergencies.

It also involves intensified communication and collaboration among concerned agencies, local government units, and emergency response teams, who are on standby and prepared to act as necessary.

Meanwhile, the Negros Occidental Operations Center (NOOC) reminded everyone to keep safety in mind while participating in religious activities or traveling during the long break.

“Whether you’re joining processions, attending mass, or going on a trip, a few simple precautions can help ensure a peaceful and meaningful experience,” the NOOC added.

It also advised families or groups to establish a meeting point in case someone gets separated and to always watch over children or elderly.

“Also, when driving, check your vehicle and ensure brakes, lights, tires, and other components are in good working condition. And, do not drink and drive. Avoid alcohol and designate a driver if necessary,” said NOOC./PN
