ILOILO – How much does Metro Iloilo Water District (MIWD) owe its bulk water supplier, Flo Water Resources Iloilo, Inc.?
Today, both will start to reconcile their records, said Atty. Dennis Ventilacon, provincial legal officer.
A committee has been formed to do the task composed of representatives from both parties.
Ventilacion said the committee is hopeful of finishing its job in a week.
MIWD has its own computation of its arrears while Flo Water has its own, too.
The conflict on how much MIWD must pay Flo Water resulted to two days of no water in Iloilo City (June 14 and 15). Flo Water stopped supplying MIWD with water.
If Flo Water were to be believed, MIWD already owed it P120 million.
But the water district maintained it only has some P15 million arrears based on the actual volume of water delivered.
In their 10-year water supply contract, Flo Water is supposed to deliver 15,000 cubic meters of water to MIWD daily.
But MIWD’s smaller pipes can only accommodate from 5,000 to 6,000 cubic meters daily at the most.
On Monday, June 16, Flo Water resumed MIWD’s water supply after the water district paid it an additional P3.1 million.
During a meeting last month, both parties agreed that MIWD must pay Flo Water P5 million a month. MIWD’s payment last week, however, fell short of that, thus the two-day disconnection.
According to MIWD Chairman of Board Dr. Danilo Encarnacion, of their P15 million arrears, they still have around P3 million left to pay. He insisted that they have been continuously paying Flo Water albeit on a staggered basis.
Encarnacion said they were paying about P1.5 million monthly to Flo Water./PN
