NEW LUCENA, Iloilo – Three towns of Iloilo province – New Lucena, Dumangas and Cabatuan – inked sisterhood pacts with Valenzuela City yesterday.
The joint sisterhood signing held here gathered together Valenzuela City’s Cong. Sherwin Gatchalian and the three mayors of the said municipalities.
Gatchalian said the sisterhood pact aimed to further strengthen Valenzuela City’s relationship with the three towns.
“This is to foster good relationship and share good practices among the said local government units, especially in education,” Gatchalian said. “It should be holistic in approach and not just about school buildings and equipment. It should enhance the teachers’ capability to teach.”
Gatchalian cited New Lucena for being a recipient of the Child-Friendly Award.
The solon shared the similarity of New Lucena and Valenzuela in terms of history. He said while New Lucena was once part of Sta. Barbara town, Valenzuela had been part of Bulacan.
Gatchalian revealed that this was the first time since its foundation that Valenzuela entered into sisterhood pacts with other local government units./PN
