BACOLOD City — In line with its 62nd anniversary, the University of St. La Salle (USLS) Bacolod is celebrating Handumanan Week from June 30 to July 5.

Handumanan is a Hiligaynon word that means “recollection of the past” or “memories.”

“During our 60th Diamond Jubilee, USLS decided to use Handumanan Week to describe the commemoration of our foundation every first week of July,” said Marie Therese Jochico, vice chancellor for academic affairs.

The first Friday of July is USLS’ Foundation Day. It was in July 1952 when the school first opened its doors to the youth of Negros.

“The celebration calls to give thanks, remember, honor, and celebrate the past, present and future, with the theme, ‘Transforming Lives, Building Communities and Shaping Future,’” said Jochico.

USLS’ Handumanan Week activities are as follows:

  • June 30 – Eucharistic celebration; Binhi Tree Care activity; opening of booths; press conference
  • July 1 – 5th Busog Lusog Talino Summit; blessing and groundbreaking of the new Integrated School Campus in Brgy. Mandalagan
  • July 2 – Service and Special Awards rites
  • July 3 – Sepak Takraw Invitational Games; Public-Private Partnership Forum; welcome reception for Golden Jubilarians; induction of USLS Alumni Association officers
  • July 4 – Thanksgiving Mass; launching of Project Stimulus; lunch reception for Golden Jubilarias; Agape lunch and birthday bash
