BACOLOD City — Apparently outdated and overloaded, the distribution lines of Central Negros Electric Cooperative (Ceneco) need to be rehabilitated, the cooperative’s general manager said.
Sulpicio Lagarde said “wires, transformers, capacitors, poles and substations have specific economic life spans and capacities.”
Rehabilitating these “is crucial because the capacity of circuits designed for smaller loads in the ’90s cannot sustain the increasing demand of the present,” he said.
Lagarde said this often leads to power outages, especially when there are strong winds and rains brought by low pressure and typhoons.
Also, the demand increases because the number of consumers also increases, he said.
Lagarde said they were hoping the Energy Regulatory Commission will soon approve its three-year capital expenditure program, a part of which involves the rehabilitation of their distribution lines.
The general manager assured their member-consumers that the rehabilitation cost will not be passed on to them./PN
