ILOILO City – Unknown assailants tried but failed to kill the barangay captain of Bagacay in Tigbauan, Iloilo.

Fifty-six-year-old Elmer Tuvillara sustained two gunshot wounds on his buttocks on Tuesday afternoon.

The shooting happened around 4:30 p.m. The gunmen fled after hitting their target.

Tuvillara was about to board a tricycle and go home after attending a meeting with other barangay captains when a man suddenly pulled him away. Then a second man appeared and the two mauled him.

Senior Insp. Janelo Gepana, Tigbauan police chief, said, “The victim fought back and tried to escape but one of the two attackers shot him twice.”

Tuvillara, now confined at the Western Visayas Medical Center, was a former member of the New People’s Army.

Gepana dismissed the motive as work-related, believing instead that the victim’s comrades could be the suspects./PN
