Campus Celebs : Out and proud

By Raymart Escopel

HE is undeniably attractive and full of appeal, but there is something in this cool dude that makes him unique.

Roland Navarra Jr. may be guy-next-door material but this handsome teen is one proud “pogay.”

The term “pogay” is coined after a segment by a noontime show which describes a physically attractive man which turns out to be gay.

As a matter of fact, Roland became one of the contestants in the noon time show’s popular segment.

Roland is currently a first year college student at the University of Iloilo – PHINMA (UI-PHINMA) with a course in Bachelor of Science in Business Administration.

Despite the prejudice homosexuals receive from other people, Roland decided to join “I Am Pogay” to become an inspiration to others and to not be afraid to show their true colors for fear of discrimination.

This 19-year old certified “pogay” loves to play volleyball and read books. He describes himself as a person of strong determination in order to achieve his dreams. He also wants to show other people how strong he is despite life’s challenges.

Considered a celebrity, Roland admits feeling pressured because of the many pairs of eyes watching his every move. Thus, he feels the need to be more careful with his action to be proven worthy of such recognition.

To become a role model to others, Roland wants to inspire his fellow youth by making a change through small simple actions.

Proving true to his words, Roland currently leads a feeding program at Asilo de Molo as a proof of how huge his heart is.

Aside from doing various outreach activities, Roland also wants to share his talents which drove him to join MKF Production Artists Club, Inc. He is at present, a member of the said production which helped him hone his talents and skills as a performer.

More than that, Roland reveals the reason he decided to join MKF Production is the good vision the production holds as well as a strong relationship among all of its members.

“I feel blessed and comfortable being a member of MKF because I believe that I am on the right hand and that I made a right choice,” Roland said. “MKF wants nothing but the best for its artists,” he added.

By joining MKF Production Artists Club, Inc., Roland said he was also molded to become a better person through various lessons that he can apply in real life.
