Truck rams houses, injures 4 persons

ILOILO City – A speeding 10-wheeler truck plowed five houses in Brgy. Baldoza, La Paz district, wounding four persons.

Confined at Saint Paul’s Hospital Iloilo were Ruby Jabanag, 42, her children Andy Boy, 16; Ana Mae, 18; and Alvin, 20.

The occupants of the other houses were unhurt.

Truck driver Elizalde Pamplona, 35, of Brgy. Nalbugan, Calinog, Iloilo was also injured but was released from the hospital after treatment.

He is now detained at Police Station 2 in La Paz.

According to Chief Insp. Rhea Santos, city traffic chief, the incident happened around 9:30 p.m. on Saturday. The truck of Pamplona was running towards Iloilo City.

Pamplona reportedly fell asleep and lost control of the truck.

The victims were fast asleep when the truck plowed their house.

“I want to say sorry to the victims. I was really sleepy,” Pamplona said.

Pamplona said he was driving for hours from Roxas City and was supposed to go to Guimaras province.

The truck was owned by Ryan Bachoco of PSP trucking based in the town of Pavia, Iloilo.

Bachoco told the police he would pay the medical expenses of the victims./PN
