MANILA – She will be back and better than ever! Or so said Ilongga senator Miriam Defensor-Santiago yesterday.

She said she has “high” chances of being completely cured of her lung cancer.

“After about six weeks of the cancer pill, chances are high that I shall be as good as new! So see you,” Santiago said.

On July 2, Santiago, 69, revealed she has stage 4 lung cancer.

The feisty lawmaker said she will be under “molecular targeting,” a pill that will help “the mass tissue to degenerate” in her lungs.

If her condition does not improve, Santiago said she will seek further treatment at the Cedars-Sinai Medical Center in Los Angeles, USA.

Her sister works there and is in touch with a top lung specialist, the senator said.

“I am now on a new cancer pill which is smaller version of chemotherapy, with the main difference that the pill does not produce the deadly side effects of chemotherapy,” Santiago said.

Santiago, meanwhile, thanked her supporters for their “kind thoughts” and “moral support.”

In a separate interview with Panay News, Santiago vowed to fight the cancer.

Ako pirme gid ya may fighting spirit. Kontrahon ko gid ni ya ang sakit nga ini,” the senator said.

She is not losing hope, said Santiago, adding she might announce her presidential candidacy once she is cured of cancer./PN
