Community crucial in anti-cybercrime drive

ILOILO City – The successful raids against operators of cybercrimes here were the result of the community’s active participation in the police’s campaign, said Supt. Peter Naboye, chief of the Regional Criminal Investigation and Detection Unit (RCIDU).

RCIDU busted a cybersex den in Barangay Sinikway, Lapuz district on Thursday.

On Wednesday, the police raided two houses in Mandurriao and Jaro districts being used by Taiwanese nationals involved in an international cyber fraud and telecom extortion operation.

“The community trusts us. They inform us about illegal activities in their neighborhoods. They enhance the information we receive from our other contacts,” Naboye said.

The RCIDU chief said whatever information they receive are being revalidated several times.

On Thursday, four women were arrested in the cybersex den in Brgy. Sinikway.

The owner of the house where the women were renting rooms was also apprehended. But Helen Delotavo, 57, denied having any knowledge of the illegal activities of the women.

“The women were paid through Western Union,” said Barangay Captain Philip Ventura of Sinikway. He witnessed the raid.

From what he had gathered, Ventura said, the women performed for male clients in the US.

Delovato said she frequently made “surprise inspections” of the rooms and found nothing unusual or irregular in them.

The RCIDU learned of the cybersex den from an asset. It took them a month to ascertain its location./PN
