ILOILO City – An improvised explosive device (IED) intended for the Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP) was recovered in Brgy. Agnilab, Tapaz, Capiz.
Members of the Philippine Army’s 61st Infantry Battalion were in the area when they spotted a gallon sized of IED with a 100 meter-long electric wire for detonation.
“We believe the rebels planted the IED to hit our men having a combat patrol in the area. Luckily our soldiers saw it,” said Brigadier General Arnold Quiapo, 601st Infantry Brigade commander.
According to Quiapo, the rebels positioned the IED near the main road, the possible route of the soldiers.
The brigade commander believes that the IED was similar to the explosive that the rebels used against solders in Miag-ao, Iloilo on July 1.
Two soldiers and two civilians were wounded in Brgy. Calampiyao, Miag-ao – Sergeant Ruben Dimzon and Corporal Allen Chris Grapa of the 82nd Infantry Battalion.
Two civilians were hurt – Melvin Depositorio and Dexter Herredura./PN
