KALIBO, Aklan — Aklanons may easily access quality and sufficient blood supply once a blood bank is put up at the provincial hospital here.
The provincial government is working on the establishment of the facility at the Dr. Rafael S. Tumbokon Memorial Hospital.
Gov. Florencio Miraflores said the capitol is investing some P15 million in the project.
Miraflores said they are closely working with the chief of hospital, Dr. Paul Macahilas.
The PhilHealth-accredited hospital is located at the heart of Barangay Poblacion here.
Miraflores said the planned blood bank will address the insufficient volume of blood for patients in hospitals in the province.
Patients or their relatives will no longer have to travel to Roxas and Iloilo cities to get blood supply, especially during emergency situations, he said.
BLOODLETTING TODAY
The Department of Health (DOH) is urging the public to donate blood.
Today, DOH Region 6 and the National Voluntary Blood Services Program will hold a region-wide motorcade and bloodletting in celebration of the Blood Donors Month.
In Aklan, a grand bloodletting will be held from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. at the ABL Sports Complex.
The activity will target about 200 blood donors from schools, government agencies, and local government units, said Dr. Cornelio Cuachon of the Provincial Health Office (PHO).
To drum up extensive participation, PHO held an orientation on the rational use of blood and blood donor recruitment.
Municipal mayors, councilors, health officers, and public health nurses; Association of Barangay Council presidents; and heads and/or representatives of government agencies attended. (With reports from Aklan Forum Journal and Philippine Information Agency/PN)
