ILOILO City – Three violators of the city’s anti-smoking ordinance were arrested at the Iloilo Terminal Market.
Policemen issued citation tickets to Johnmar Cabana, 20, of Barangay Maliao, Leon, Iloilo; Lowel Mardoque, 43, of Barangay Ito Sur, Cabatuan, Iloilo; and Manuelito Sales, 54, of Barangay Rizal Pala, this city.
The anti-smoking ordinance prohibits smoking in public places and conveyances. The city government is aggressively enforcing it.
“We don’t want people to get sick and we don’t want them to end up in the mortality statistics,” said Mayor Jed Patrick Mabilog recently.
The Department of Health has recognized the city several times for its anti-smoking campaign.
The Iloilo City Anti-Smoking Task force is the main city government arm implementing the ordinance./PN
