Monico to ask for floodway project

BACOLOD City — To solve flooding in the city, Mayor Monico Puentevella said he will ask President Benigno Aquino III to grant the city a floodway project.

Puentevella said he will ask the President to help create and implement a floodway master plan for Bacolod.

“I will [ask] the President to grant us the same privilege with Iloilo,” he said. “During her time, President Gloria Arroyo granted Iloilo a P7-million floodway project.”

Barangays 3 and 4 were the most flood-prone village in the city.

Puentevella also lamented that the problem with the city’s drainage system remains.

Meanwhile, the mayor thanked that the city has been spared from the onslaught of typhoon “Glenda” (international name: Rammasun).

“I thank our Lord for always sparing Negros (Occidental), especially Bacolod, from typhoons,” Puentevella said.

He said he hopes his term will end without any typhoon severely affecting the city.

“There were no reported casualties or families badly affected by heavy rains brought by ‘Glenda,’” he said.

Amid the typhoon, trips of fast crafts from Bacolod to Iloilo and vice versa were ongoing, but flights from Bacolod to Manila were cancelled./PN
