Negrense tankers to join Bangkok meet

BACOLOD City – Four swimmers from the Panaad Swimming Team here have been selected to join the 2014 Royal Bangkok Meet this November in Thailand.

The Philippine Swimming League picked Danica Mikaela Alba, Lance Jiro Tacsagon, Jason Adriana Mirabueno, and Jerald Lawrence Rubi after registering an impressive performance in the league’s 61st Series from July 5 to 6 in Iloilo City.

Alba, a 10-year-old Grade 5 student of St. Benilde School, won five silver medals in girls’ 100-meter individual medley, 50-meter backstroke, 50-meter and 100-meter freestyle, and 50-meter butterfly.

Tacsagon, 10, from ETCS I, finished with a silver in boys’ 50-meter and 100-meter freestyle, and bronze in 50-meter butterfly and 50-meter backstroke.

The 15-year-old Mirabueno, a Grade 9 student from La Consolacion College-IS, brought home a silver in high school boys’ 100-meter freestyle and a bronze in 50-meter backstroke.

His school mate Rubin settled for third place in 50-meter freestyle and 50-meter butterfly.

The four swimmers are mainstays of their respective schools’ varsity teams that regularly compete at the Negros Occidental Provincial Meet.

They trained at the Panaad Swimming Team under the tutelage of coaches Deo Lanza, Ricky Tordillos, Salve Valdedara, and Jun Dadal.

Aside from swimming, Alba, Rubin and Mirabueno are also into triathlon and have competed in various triathlon events in Negros Occidental and Cebu./PN
