Milling company to close brgy road

BACOLOD City — In light of the recent discovery of alleged illegal slaughtering in Barangay 41, Bacolod Murcia Milling Company will close starting today the road from its compound to Purok Malvar Cubay.

In a letter to Barangay Captain Leonilo Colegado, the company said it will also impose strict security measures on all vehicles coming in and out of its compound.

Residents can access an alternative road through the compound’s gate on the 4th Road, the company said in the letter signed by Arnulfo Ciocon, its administrative and finance officer.

About 900 Barangay 41 residents live within the company’s compound. Colegado’s house is also situated there.

The road closure will make commuting difficult for the residents, Colegado said.

The alternative road is far from the residents’ houses and the main road where public utility vehicles pass by, he said.

Passing by the alternative road is also dangerous, especially at night; it has portions with tall grasses, and there are no street lights, he warned.

Medylin Artikulo, one of the residents, said the road to be closed is nearer to her children’s school than the alternative road.

Colegado said he wrote the milling company to reconsider its decision. He said he has scheduled a meeting with Ciocon.

He said the barangay council will seek the City Council’s support./PN
