ILOILO City – Mayor Christian Sorongon of New Lucena, Iloilo filed yesterday administrative and criminal complaints at the Office of the Ombudsman Visayas sub-office against his predecessor.
Sorongon accused former mayor and now Sangguniang Panlalawigan member Liecel Seville of serious irregularity, grave misconduct, dishonesty, and conduct unbecoming of a public officer.
He also claimed Seville committed the following criminal acts:
* malversation
* technical malversation
* “rejuggling” of funds
* failure to render account
* failure to make delivery of public funds/property
* violations of pertinent Commission on Audit (COA) circulars on the manual on the new government accounting system for local government units
Seville committed all these when she was mayor of New Lucena, claimed Sorongon.
The 25-year-old mayor said he based his complaint on an annual COA report.
“Definitely indi ini pamulitika (this has nothing to do with politics),” he told capitol reporters in a phone interview.
Sorongon said the COA presented the town’s financial status to him, being the new mayor.
“And as the new mayor, my concern is the public,” he stressed.
Seville was not immediately available for comment.
She was not in her office yesterday and her mobile phone number cannot be reached./PN
