ILOILO City – The barangay captain of Malitbog, Tapaz, Capiz was arrested for illegal gun possession.
It turned out that 44-year-old Rogelio Argañosa was also a “high-value” drug suspect.
Argañosa was in Barangay Poblacion, Tapaz around 8 p.m. on Monday when he had a heated argument with a motorist, said Senior Inspector Gilbert Gervero, municipal police chief.
Argañosa threatened to shoot the motorist using a 12-gauge shotgun.
The barangay captain did not have a license to carry the firearm, Gervero said.
Argañosa — now detained at the Tapaz police station lockup cell — was a suspected drug dealer in Malitbog and neighboring barangays, said Senior Superintendent Samuel Nacion, Capiz police director.
“The police staged an operation against him once, but he evaded arrest,” Nacion said. “He was too quick.”
Police said Argañosa surrendered in July during the knock-and-plea stage of the intensified antidrug campaign Oplan Double Barrel.
“He is a high-value drug target in our town,” Gervero stressed. “Based on intelligence reports, he gets his supply from Iloilo.”/PN
