MANILA – Sen. Leila de Lima on Monday walked out of the Senate session hall while Sen. Alan Peter Cayetano was delivering a privilege speech.
“I am going to deliver a privilege speech tomorrow and respond,” de Lima said.
In his speech, Cayetano accused the former Justice chief of discrediting President Rodrigo Duterte.
De Lima’s Committee on Justice and Human Rights has been holding hearings into the recent killings of suspected drug personalities.
“May I respectfully assert that: Sen. de Lima, in her desire to destroy the President, is destroying the integrity and reputation of the Senate. Worse, damaging the image of our country and people worldwide,” the senator from Taguig said.
The lady solon, for her part, clarified that “what is destroying the reputation of this country are the killings.”
Before Cayetano delivered his speech yesterday, Senate President Pro-Tempore Franklin Drilon moved to suspend.
Cayetano, however, proceeded with his speech after 14 senators voted against Drilon’s motion./PN
